China's Cyberspace Administration has directed major tech firms, including ByteDance and Alibaba, to cease testing and orders of Nvidia's RTX 6000D chips. The tailor-made AI inference chip, designed for the Chinese market, had already faced tepid demand due to cost concerns and anticipation of newer models like the H20 and B30A.
The regulatory intervention has halted what was shaping up to be significant orders—some companies were in advanced stages of procuring tens of thousands of units. Suppliers were abruptly instructed to pause verification work, compounding Nvidia's challenges in a key market.
